Vacancy: Financial Accountant

The Robertson Trust are looking for a fixed-term Financial Accountant, to help us make a real difference to reducing poverty and trauma in Scotland. The Financial Accountant will have current experience of using Sage 50 or a similar package within a busy finance team (Sage 200 is desirable). With an in-depth knowledge and understanding of financial regulations and legislation, you will be adaptable to the changing needs of the team assisting the Finance Manager in maintaining and delivering accurate and timely financial information to support the finance team meet reporting deadlines.

The key focus of the role is preparation of monthly management information including analysis of financial performance and preparation of the annual statutory accounts and working papers including liaising with external auditors. This involves working in a collaborative environment, developing strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels particularly with non-finance functions is essential.

Key responsibilities

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts, budgets and forecast,
  • Analysis of financial performance and provide commentary on variances to budget including balance sheet reconciliations,
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of month end processes,
  • Assist with preparation of annual statutory accounts and working papers including liaison with external auditors,
  • Liaise with internal audit as required,
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations,
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT returns,
  • Identifying any process improvements to drive efficiency and effectiveness of the team,
  • Support the finance manager with ad hoc projects and analysis as required.

The Person

We are looking for someone with in-depth knowledge and understanding of financial regulations and legislation, who has proficient knowledge of Sage 50 or a similar financial system. You will have previous demonstrable experience as a Financial or Management Accountant. Experience of VAT returns- along with excellent IT skills and a skilled user of Microsoft Office, particularly in Excel. 

You should be able to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and work collaboratively with other teams and external stakeholders. The successful candidate should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail, and a continuous improvement mindset.
