Vacancy: Finance Assistant

We are currently looking for a Finance Assistant to help us make a real difference to reducing poverty and trauma in Scotland. The closing date for applications is 6th August 2023.

The Robertson Trust are looking for a Finance Assistant to help us make a real difference to reducing poverty and trauma in Scotland. If you would like to be part of one of Scotland’s biggest independent funders, with the clear aim of tackling poverty and trauma, this role could be for you.

The Finance Assistant will have current experience of using Sage 50 within a busy finance team (Sage 200 is desirable). Working across all functions of finance, you will be adaptable to the changing needs of the team assisting the Finance Manager in maintaining and delivering accurate and timely financial information to support the finance team meet reporting deadlines.

The key focus of the role is purchase ledger including but not limited to reconciliations, bank payments, management information and supporting month end. This involves working in a collaborative environment, developing strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels particularly with non-finance functions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Handling, processing, and distributing supplier invoices on a daily basis in an accurate and timely manner
  • Perform monthly supplier reconciliations
  • Process monthly supplier payment runs and ad hoc payments as required
  • Process grant and scholar payment runs on both accounting and banking software.
  • Distribute credit card statements to the staff team for approval, ensuring they are processed accurately and promptly, with relevant supporting information
  • Raise and process sales ledger invoices
  • Reconcile any discrepancies or queries identified by resolving, promptly and professionally, with staff and suppliers/customers
  • Reconcile balance sheet items to trial balance
  • Monitor finance mailbox and respond to queries timely and professionally
  • Update management information analysis

The Person

We are looking for someone with experience of working within a busy finance/accounts department, who has proficient knowledge of Sage 50 or a similar financial system. Experience of Sage 200 would be desirable and should be a skilled user of Microsoft Office, with proficiency in Excel. 

You should be able to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and work collaboratively with other teams and external stakeholders. The successful candidate should have strong attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.
