Using the 2014 Commonwealth Games as a catalyst, Active East was created in response to an identified need to create more opportunities for young people in the East of Glasgow to participate in sport and physical activity and to improve the benefit they gain from doing so. Managed by Scottish Sports Futures, the project aimed to encourage young people to participate and take a leadership role in their community who would otherwise not do so. It is a partnership programme that brings together a range of community organisations including sports clubs, youth clubs and schools.
