Almost two-thirds of the Scotland team at Gold Coast 2018 are current or former bursary award winners through SportsAid Scotland.
A total of 84 of the 134 individual athletes who will represent Team Scotland as it seeks to achieve its most successful overseas Commonwealth Games have been supported. A high percentage of the athletes who will compete in the team events in basketball, beach volleyball, hockey and netball will also have benefitted in the past through The Robertson Trust annual team awards.
"It will be fantastic to see the cream of Scottish sport rise to the surface at Gold Coast 2018 and The Robertson Trust, through SportsAid Scotland, has been a big part of helping athletes reach their potential. We are indebted to their substantial support in recent years and I have no doubt that, without that support, many of these athletes would not have made the team for Australia. We'll be watching the progress of our athletes carefully and hopefully some can bring home medals as Team Scotland strives to make it their most successful overseas Games ever." said SportsAid Scotland chief executive Roddy Mackenzie.
Gordon Hunt, Head of Scholarship at The Robertson Trust said, “The Robertson Trust are thrilled to have been able to support so many talented Scottish athletes though our long-standing relationship with SportsAid Scotland. We wish them every success at Gold Coast 2018 where we know they will do Scotland proud.”
