Director’s blog - Strategy update

Please note that The Robertson Trust has published its new Giving Strategy. This sets out the priorities we will have when awarding funds through our open grants programme. The existing application form and guidelines can still be used until July 31st. In line with our existing procedures, we will aim to assess and present all applications received by this date to our September Board meeting. In the event that we are unable to do so, your application may be held until our November meeting. In such cases a member of staff will contact you and provide any assistance required to realign your application with the new Giving Strategy. Find out all you need to know here.

Earlier this year, I blogged about The Robertson Trust’s plans for 2019 and, in particular, our decision to undergo a full review of how we work ahead of launching a new strategy.

The strategic review will allow us to consider our role as a funder in the 21st century. We expect to give away around £100m over the next five year period and it is important that we feel confident about how we are able to focus our resources to best meet the challenges and embrace the opportunities facing the communities and organisations we work with.

We are keen to hear the views of our current grantholders and those we are working with as we shape our strategy. This will begin shortly with a grantholder questionnaire and a number of focus groups with key stakeholders.

Hopefully regular visitors to our digital channels will have noticed that we are being more proactive with our communications and aim to provide regular updates about all areas of our work; the progress of our strategy will be no different.

One of the most important messages to stress at this stage is that it’s business as usual for our current grant holders and potential applicants. As our strategy starts to take shape, potential applicants can rest assured that anything that will affect the application process will be communicated well in advance. Meanwhile, those with a more general interest in our direction of travel can also sign up for our mailing list or simply follow our website or social channels to stay in touch with progress.

I’m excited about what the future for The Robertson Trust holds and confident that the strategy which emerges from our groundwork and conversations will accurately reflect what the role of a funder in 21st century Scotland should be.

In the meantime, if you do have any questions about applying for award, please contact a member of our Giving Team, who will be happy to help.
