Drug and Alcohol Misuse
In 2000 The Robertson Trust commissioned Professor Neil McKeganey, Head of the University of Glasgow Centre for Drug Misuse to undertake research into the effectiveness of drug treatment in Scotland, the DORIS study. A summary of the findings of this work can be found in the Publications section of this website.
Professor McKeganey's research also looked at successful prevention strategies which help young people to resist the temptations of illegal substances. As a result of this work the Trustees have identified a new priority area, Community Arts and Sport. The Trust now funds a number of Community Sport initiatives. Further details can be found in the Community Sport section.
The Trustees have also funded two projects which provide early intervention support to children living in drug using families; the Jeely Piece Club in Castlemilk Glasgow and the Aberlour Childcare Trust in North Glasgow. Evaluation reports from both of these projects are available in the Publications section of the website.
The Trust is also seeking to develop partnerships with charities working in the field of alcohol misuse and in particular those with innovative projects to address prevention issues.
