Breaking the Cycle

In 2008, The Robertson Trust was approached by the Scottish Prison Service to administer a fund, provided by Serco, to support the resettlement of prisoners back into the community.

Breaking the Cycle is a £1M fund (£750k from Serco and £250K from The Robertson Trust) which will support 4 new projects in Scotland. These projects will be externally evaluated with a key outcome being the transfer of good practice to mainstream service delivery.

Applications to Breaking the Cycle are developed in partnership with key charities working in the criminal justice sector in Scotland. The first of these projects has been approved and will be delivered by Access to Industry in partnership with the Glasgow Regeneration Agencies to support young offenders returning to Glasgow from Polmont Young Offenders Institution.

Other initiatives supported are likely to include the development of a Social Enterprise and resettlement support for Young Offenders leaving Cornton Vale
